Faster CPU where the price is justifiable is ok. All routers and technology in general will get outdated and need to be replaced with a faster newer device. You’ll end up spending 5x what you originally intended. And if you keep struggling to get the next step up. Your future needs ends up needing and SFP+ port and the SFP port isn’t good enough. I wouldn’t base my purchase on things you don’t need but is nice to have for the future. 2011 is to dated for today’s times.įeature wise. Unless your in poverty where free is all you can afford. And the 10 ports isn’t better because 5 of them are 10/100. I wouldn’t consider the 2011 even if it’s giving to you free. 3011 is good choice if you have one laying around, someone gives it to you, or really good deal on it. 5009 would be worth considering if you need it’s features over the 4011. In some cases is same to marginally better than the 4011.
But the 4011 offers 4-5x the performance for $20 more. If you want to look at more powerful routers. And it’s a really good price/performance value. You don’t have to use the built in wifi you can disable the interface. That if you do get to a point where you need an upgrade. MikroTik and select UBNT devices are the main brands that use passive 24v. The non S version can be a cheaper choice if you don’t need SFP or passive 24v PoE. Which depending on your needs/wants that maybe close enough.
